Struggle to weave reading into your daily life?
Listen, we get it. In theory it’s a lovely habit, but life is busy and it can be far easier to have a quick (or long) scroll. If you want to try and start reading more over summer, here are some handy tips to help it feel a little easier.
⏰ Make it a micro habit! When there’s no time to sit down and read for hours on end, try to fit in a few quick 10-minute reading sessions every day: first thing in morning, while making a cuppa, or right before bed are great opportunities.
📲 You knew this one would be on here: put your phone away. Orrrr pop it across the room, just out of reach. Using the Forest app is also another cute way to refocus yourself, as it grows a little virtual tree when you’re not scrolling!
📖 Always carry your book! Put a book in your bag, your pocket, anywhere. That way, instead of automatically scrolling, you can read while you’re commuting, while you’re waiting for an appointment, or while you’re waiting to meet with a friend.
💪 Building a reading habit is like building a muscle, it takes time but gets easier. Make sure you love what you’re reading: choose something light, fun, quick and easy to break out of a reading rut (poems, novellas, articles, anything!)
If you’re looking for more accountability to keep you on track with your reading goals, the Story Social book club might be just what you need. Catch up on our book club pick for May and the details for the online club here.
